This is the second of four posts leading up to the Dear Self: a 7-day interactive event.
After the storm blew over, I was stranded on the Isle of Unknown. In other words, once the shock of my MS diagnosis wore off, I realized the need to come to terms with my changed reality. My life was no longer all sunshine and roses.
So I started with the place where I knew MS would rear its ugly head; my body. Putting pen to paper I wrote:
I read it over and over and over again. I could recite it from memory. Even though it didn't paint a pretty picture, it was true. This was the new me.
This was my MS Self. However, what exactly did MS Self mean?
So, I asked GOOGLE because GOOGLE knows everything. This is what I found after reading many articles and visiting various websites focusing on MS Self.
MS self involves understanding how MS influences one's self-image, self-esteem, and self-identity. It may also call for maintaining a positive sense of self, resilience, and a strong inner spirit. This is despite the challenges presented by the disease.
Suddenly the clouds parted and I felt compelled to rediscover my strong inner spirit.
And that is exactly what I did.
Found this article really amazing in the manner it tooks at how we must take time to find our way when we receive life altering facts about an illness that has now taken up residency in our bodies! We must take the time needed to adjust to this life altering news! I love the twelve steps that you wrote that describes how you were feeling, and I love how you put MS in the basement of your body, as you co ti us to fight to control everything about all the negative things MS can throw at you! I love the manner of your clarity of what you write, and the fact I can reread this paper of yours two hours or two days later and still find something new and amazing in your article that pertains to me! Please keep writing, you are my guiding light in feeling so much better!
